I began learning to play the clarinet with Elaine about 2 years ago and have had fortnightly lessons since.I had no prior experience of studying music or playing an instrument. I have found Elaine to be a very encouraging and enabling teacher. She has a very student centred philosophy towards teaching, is happy to go at the student's pace and follow their interests. We have used a tutor book and classical pieces but Elaine is also very happy for me to bring along pieces of music to my taste, which she has helped me to play and also created accompaniments to, on the piano. Though I came with no knowledge I have never felt self conscious or out of my depth. I find her inspiring & she always focusses on positives. Her relaxed style is backed up with expertise and many years of playing and teaching.
Elaine is generous with her time, always alert, attentive & extremely intuitive. She sometimes accompanies me on the piano or her clarinet. Lessons are enjoyable, in fact,a real joy and I can wholeheartedly recommend Elaine as a teacher.

Before I had lessons with Elaine I didn't enjoy clarinet half as much as now. Elaine used the 'Prep Test' to help me gain confidence & now I've passed my Grade One exam too! In lessons we often end up laughing & it doesn't matter if I get it wrong.
I started piano lessons with Elaine about 3 months ago. From the first lesson I felt at ease with her professional, practical approach to teaching. Elaine's approach is never condescending, always encouraging and positive. I've wanted to play the piano for over twenty years and believe, with Elaine's teaching my goal will be achieved.

I would really recommend Elaine as any children's piano teacher. My son Tommy has been with her since 2010 when he was 4. He achieves high Distinctions in his exams & is now working on Grade 8 Piano , having attained Grade 5 Theory aged.8 and a Distinction at Grade 7 Piano at 9yrs.. Elaine is very experienced, knowledgeable, hard working and plans well.
Tommy gets to play in Elaine'sConcerts & others into which Elaine enters him, also Festivals and Competitions. In 2014 Tommy was the UK EPTA HIgher Intermediate Winner at Chethams Manchester. Also that year Tommy was succesful in the Piano Solo, Open & Repertoire Classes at the Selston Music Festival, and finally adjudged Overall Festival Winner. Following this he was offered assessment for a place at the prestigious Royal Academy Of Music in London's Junior School.
Tommy enjoys Elaine's holistic approach incorporating, music history, harmony & analysis in a light hearted way, & he likes to compose.I have really appreciated her teaching of the real essence of music for Tommy.

After I lost my Mum for whom I was full-time carer, there was such a huge hole in my life. Reviving playing the piano, which my Mum had encouraged as a child, helped fill that gap. With her added experience as a Grief & Loss Counsellor, seeing Elaine each week for our piano 'sessions' gave me something to keep going for and aim for through the difficult early months. Music and Elaine gave me a way to express my feelings and come to terms with my loss. I felt that out of all the dark grief, had emerged something new and beautiful. I played for my Mum, & I played for me and the future.
I used to have piano lessons with Elaine which I enjoyed, especially the music theory. I wasn't very keen to practise as using my hands can be a problem. I started the clarinet instead which at first was uncomfortable for my hands but Elaine (& Mick her husband) adapted my clarinet to suit me. Now it's comfortable and I'm getting on fine.
Having recently retired from teaching, with time to pursue activities I'd always wanted, I took the plunge! This was not without some misgivings about putting myself in the 'pupil' situation, feelings of trepidation and anxiety. Now, nearly 2 years later I can wholeheartedly recommend learning to play the piano. It is fulfilling and provides enjoyment, personal expression, and in a non threatening, non competitive way in a positive environment. If you are undecided about lessons, why not try some? I only wish I had begun decades earlier!

Elaine has been excellent in inspiring & developing my son's musical abilities. My son has Special Needs & many other Music Teachers haven't been able to accommodate this. Elaine always puts my son at ease with a friendly & reassuring attitude, which has really helped him to thrive. I would really recommend Elaine as a skilled & talented Music Teacher.
I began having lessons with Elaine just over a year ago, as a beginner. I have already developed a range of different skills & achieved a Distinction at Grade One. Before I began to learn with Elaine, my co-ordination wasn't good & my confidence was low. Through her lessons I have develpoed good co-ordination & my confidence has risen dramatically, so much so, I was able to play in one of her Concerts & am now preparing for a Music Festival.
Elaine makes learning fun & I thoroughly enjoy my lessons. Elaine has an amazing talent as a teacher & is also a caring person who really believes in her students. She loves to see you grow & succeed & is thrilled when this occurs.

Hearing my retired parents play, I too wanted to play, so I got a clarinet & went to Elaine for lessons.
I have not looked back. Her teaching style is unique and also very enjoyable!
I wouldn't have any hesitation in recommending Elaine to anyone who wants to play, at any age.

I played the clarinet at school more than 25 years ago to Grade 5 standard. Last year I decided I would like to take it up again. I bought a clarinet & after a few months of haphazard practice on my own, in March 2012, I plucked up the courage to contact Elaine.
Teaching a 43 yr old to improve her playing must have its' challenges, but Elaine is very encouraging and motivational.
I always look forward to my fortnightly Wednesday evening lesson. She makes them fun but at the same time very productive & I always feel at ease.
Elaine encourages me to reach my full potential and after only a few months of lessons with Elaine I felt I made great strides. In 2014 I gained Distinction in Grade 5 Music Theory and Distinction in Grade 6 Clarinet, In 2015 I gained Grade 7 with Merit. I now have attained Grade 8 !!
Also I enjoy playing First Clarinet in Elaine's Phoenix Clarinet Choir.
